DAVID: I’m fine, thanks. And you?
HILARY: Very well, thanks. David, do you know Yang Chong? Yanh Chong, this is David Kennett. He’s our project director in Vietnam.
DAVID: Pleased to meet you, Yang Chong.
YANG CHONG: How do you do, Mr Kennett?

SHARON: Excuse me, Dr. Brown. Can I introduce you to Professor Polsky from Macedonia?
Anna, this is Dr Harold Brown. He works in Rwanda.
Dr. Brown: How do you do?
PROF. POLSKY: How do you do, Dr. Brown?

HILARY: Hello, Sharon. How are things with you?
SHARON: OK thanks, Hilary. Oh, this is Martin, this is Hilary, my friend from Manchester.
MARTIN: Hi.
HILARY: Hello, Martin.

Pe înregistrare ai auzit apelativele: Mr. Kennet, Profesor Polsky, Dr. Brown

Apelativele se pun înaintea numelui persoanei în adresarea politicoasă:
Pentru Bărbaţi: Mr (mister)
Pentru Femei: Mrs [misiz], Miss, Ms [miz]
Pentru Bărbaţi şi Femei cu titluri academice: Dr (doctor), Professor.

Mrs: se foloseşte doar pentru femei căsătorite;
Miss: pentru o femeie necăsătorită;
Ms: pentru o femeie, fie căsătorită, fie necăsătorită.

Forme contrase sau scurte.

În engleză de multe ori lipim cuvintele, mai ales în vorbirea curentă.
De exemplu în verbul to be:
I am -> I’m
you are -> you’re
he is -> he’s
she is -> she’s
it is -> it’s
we are -> we’re
you are -> you’re
they are -> they’re
